At Flix FX, we were commissioned to design glowing orbs and glowing dumbells for a Nutianix commercial. I designed and fabricated the orbs that would represent a visualized unit of data in the commercial. The goal was to design a globe that was durable enough to be thrown around on set while having an easily-rechargeable lighting system. Each globe is made up of two hemispheres that use a twist on/off mechanism (drawn below) that allows them to lock tightly together and twist easily apart for easy battery access.
